According to the World Health Organization, health is physical, mental, and social well-being; it entails the absence of diseases and defects in the body. There are different types of health; physical, mental, emotional, financial, and spiritual health. All these types are correlated. When you have spiritual health, you have a sense of purpose, which leads to good mental health. When you have financial health, you can purchase foods required for proper nutrition, leading to good physical health.

Good physical health encompasses pursuing a healthy lifestyle. You should not only have a proper diet but also engage in physical activity and get regular and sufficient sleep.  Physical activity boosts heart functioning and maintains flexibility. It also strengthens the muscles and ensures proper breathing and body composition. Apart from physical activity, you should also ensure that working conditions are hygienic with no health hazards. You should take vaccines when necessary and use contraceptives during sex. Avoid consuming drugs, such as alcohol and tobacco.

The US Department of Health and Human Sciences describes mental health as the emotional, social, and psychological well-being. People with good mental health are free from anxiety, stress, and depression. They can cope and adapt to challenging situations, and they have good judgment. They also accept positive criticism. They enjoy life and balance different aspects, such as finances and relationships.

Mental health is related to physical health. For instance, if a person suffers from a chronic disease that interferes with their physical movement and body functioning, they may end up depressed. Depression affects body weight. Also, a person with a mental problem, such as stress, may end up engaging in drug abuse. Drugs interfere with physical health.

Physical health is the most common type, as it can be easily accessed. Several signs indicate that a person has good physical health. They include; natural pulse and blood pressure, regular and sufficient sleep, good appetite, proper weight, fit body, and good natural appearance. Healthcare aims at ensuring people have optimal health. The organs and cells of a person with quality health functions properly.

Public health describes health as the absence of social, physical, economic, and mental problems. Good financial, spiritual, social, and emotional health contributes to the well-being of both physical and psychological health, and it also reduces stress levels. People with poor spiritual health feel empty and selfless. Faith is essential in maintaining good spiritual health; it reduces anxiety.

Teen Health and Wellness
The health of teen is essential to their growth. Teenagers experience many health issues that relate to their age and exploration. The health issues that teenagers have include unintentional injuries that cause deaths or disabilities, and involvement in violent activities like gangs and interpersonal aggressiveness that also affects their physical health. Unprotected sex among teenagers affects their mental and physical health. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 2.1 million teenagers are living with HIV that they have contracted through risky sexual activities. Similarly, children born of teenage mothers usually contract the virus due to the naivety of young parents. Both instances affect the health of teenagers. Additionally, mental illnesses like depression are dominant in teenagers, and it causes effects like suicide, which is the second leading cause of death among adolescents. Open communication between teenagers and their families and relatives is vital to ensuring that they are mentally healthy. Observation of both the physical and emotional health of teenagers is essential to their growth.
Teen Wellness involves the process of making healthy choices in all areas of their lives. Wellness is vital in teenagers because it helps them to promote their well-being and feel comfortable in their lives, which enables them to attain their goals. It is essential to consider all the teenage wellness dimensions, which include emotional, environmental, physical, and social. The emotional wellness of teenagers involves understanding their feelings, accepting them, and coping in healthy ways like maintaining satisfying relationships. Environmental wellness is evident for teenagers in ensuring that their surroundings are positive, stable, and safe, for instance, having a clean room. Social and physical teenage wellness involves the creation of a connection to other people, having a sense of belonging and support, and the process of taking care of one’s body through physical activity, healthy eating, and getting adequate rest, respectively. It is arguably true that adolescence is one of the most significant stages of life. During this stage the body experiences great changes as one transition into adulthood. Factors Affecting Health Among Teenagers
Adolescent health can be defined as the approaches incorporated to prevent, detect, or treat teenager’s wellbeing and health. These approaches are necessitated by various health risks among teenagers. They include alcohol and drugs, violence, and early pregnancy and childbirth.
Drugs and alcohol abuse among teenagers is a problematic issue in many countries. Teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 are increasingly getting involved in the vice (“Adolescents: health risks and solutions”). There are various effects of drug and alcohol abuse. They include indulgence in risky behaviors such as unsafe sex, which may lead to the transmission of STDs, injuries to the body, and premature deaths. Other long-term effects of drug and alcohol abuse among teenagers include hepatitis, mental illness, cancer, and heart or lung diseases (“Health Consequences of Drug Misuse”). Excessive use may further lead to addiction.
Interpersonal violence also presents itself as a factor affecting teenagers’ health. According to statistics, the third leading cause of death among teenagers in the world is interpersonal violence. In the WHO region, low-middle-income countries have interpersonal violence contributing to almost a third of the total adolescent male deaths (“Adolescents: health risks and solutions”, 2018). For adolescent females, almost one in every three 15-19-year-olds has been a victim of sexual, physical, or emotional violence. These acts of violence negatively impact the health of teenagers. Additionally, early pregnancy and childbirth implicate teenagers’ health. Among 15-19-year-olds, complications during pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death globally (“Adolescents: health risks and solutions”, 2018). Apart from death, other health risks associated with early pregnancy and childbirth include postpartum depression, higher risks of systematic infections, puerperal endometritis, and eclampsia. If a teenager chooses to carry out an abortion, the risks presented include maternal morbidity, mortality, and lasting health problems.
In conclusion, there are several factors affecting health among teenagers. Among them are alcohol and drugs, violence, and early pregnancy and childbirth. In an attempt to deal with health issues among teenagers, measures need to be put in place to control these factors.
